About Wilma

Wilma Terezinha Anselmo-Lima is a Full Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, and Head and Neck Surgery at the Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto of the Universidade de São Paulo (FMRP-USP). She earned her medical degree from the Universidade Federal do Triângulo Mineiro in 1982, completed her specialization in Otorhinolaryngology at FMRP-USP in 1984, obtained a master’s degree in Otorhinolaryngology from the Universidade de São Paulo in 1988, and a doctorate in Clinical Medicine from the same institution in 1993. She conducted postdoctoral research at University College London Medical School from 1998 to 1999 and achieved the livre-docente title from USP in 2001. She has been a faculty member at FMRP-USP since 1988, progressing from assistant professor to associate professor in 2001 and full professor in 2013. Her clinical and surgical practice is based at the Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto-USP.

Her research centers on otorhinolaryngology with a primary focus in rhinology, encompassing nasal obstruction, regeneration of the nasal mucosa, chronic rhinosinusitis with and without nasal polyps, viral infections of the upper airways, and related pathophysiological and therapeutic aspects. She has authored or co-authored more than 400 scientific publications in national and international journals, contributed to books, and served as an editor of periodicals. She has supervised over 70 master’s and doctoral students. Anselmo-Lima has received multiple awards for outstanding scientific presentations, including first place in the IX Rhinology prize in 2022 and recognition for work in combined meetings and residency programs. She was the first woman to preside over the Associação Brasileira de Otorrinolaringologia e Cirurgia Cérvico-Facial (ABORL-CCF) and has been honored by student cohorts at FMRP-USP for her teaching contributions.
