Rate My Professor Xiang Zhang

Dr. Xiang Zhang is an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Materials Science and NanoEngineering at Rice University. He completed his B.S. in Applied Physics at the University of Science and Technology of China in 2013, where he began research on graphene synthesis. He earned his Ph.D. in Applied Physics/Materials Science and NanoEngineering from Rice University in 2018 under the guidance of Professor Pulickel M. Ajayan, with a focus on two-dimensional nanomaterials. Following his doctorate, Dr. Zhang served as a Postdoctoral Associate and subsequently as a Research Scientist in Professor Ajayan’s research group at Rice University before his appointment as Assistant Research Professor.

Dr. Zhang’s research encompasses the synthesis, characterization, and applications of two-dimensional nanomaterials and their heterostructures. His work also includes diamond growth via chemical vapor deposition and the exploration of diamond applications across multiple fields. More recently, his efforts have centered on the development of advanced plasma techniques and reactors for decarbonization processes, including carbon growth, metal refining, and battery waste recycling. He maintains an affiliation with the Ajayan Research Group at Rice University.
