About Xiangping

Xiangping Hu is a top-level researcher and senior researcher at the Industrial Ecology Programme within the Department of Energy and Process Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). He also serves as a guest researcher at the Department of Mathematical Sciences at NTNU. Hu holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics and Statistics from NTNU, awarded in 2013 following studies from 2009 to 2013. He earned a Master of Science in Mathematical Modelling and Simulation from Blekinge Institute of Technology in Sweden in 2009 and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Automation from Kunming University of Science and Technology in China in 2006.

His research focuses on mathematical and statistical modelling, including Bayesian and computational statistics, spatial statistics, biostatistics, numerical optimization, and mathematical programming. Additional areas of interest include climate change mitigation strategies, ecosystems and ecoservices, sustainable production and consumption, biodiversity impacts, industrial ecology, data analysis and modelling, big data analysis, Gaussian Markov Random Fields, and multivariate Gaussian Random Fields. Hu has been involved in projects such as MITISTRESS on strategies to mitigate pressures on terrestrial ecosystems from multiple stressors, BIOPATH on advancing biofuel pathways with regional climate change implications, BIO4CLIM on comparative climate impact assessment of forest-based bio-economies, and QUIFFIN on quantifying climate impacts of future forest management strategies in Norway.
