Professor Yan Yu is a full professor of materials science at the University of Science and Technology of China. She received her Ph.D. in materials science from the University of Science and Technology of China in 2006. From 2007 to 2008, she served as a postdoctoral researcher at Florida International University. She subsequently received a Humboldt Research Fellowship and the Sofja Kovalevskaja Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, enabling her to conduct research at the Max Planck Institute for Solid-State Research in Stuttgart, Germany.
Her research focuses on the design of novel nanomaterials for clean energy applications, particularly electrodes for lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries, and lithium-sulfur batteries, as well as the fundamental science of energy storage systems. She has been recognized as a Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Researcher in Materials Science. Among her honors are the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the 16th China Youth Science and Technology Award, and election as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Professor Yan Yu holds numerous editorial and advisory board positions, including with ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Materials Today, Advanced Energy Materials, Energy & Environmental Science, ACS Energy Letters, and others.
