Prof. Dr. Chunyang Chen serves as Professor of Software Engineering & AI at the Technical University of Munich in the School of Computation, Information and Technology. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications in China and his PhD from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore in 2018. Prior to joining TUM in 2024, he worked as a lecturer and tenured senior lecturer at Monash University in Australia from 2018 to 2024.
His research centers on the intersection of software engineering, artificial intelligence, human-computer interaction, and software security, with specific applications in AI-assisted mobile app development, UI design and code generation, GUI testing, accessibility, bug replay, mining software repositories, robustness of deep learning models, and agentic large language models for software engineering tasks. Chen has received multiple awards, including several ACM SIGSOFT Distinguished Paper Awards at conferences such as ICSE and ASE, the Amazon Research Award in the Agentic AI track, the Gemini Academic Program Award from Google Cloud, the ACM SIGSOFT Early Career Researcher Award, a Discovery Early Career Researcher Award from the Australian Research Council, and best paper honors at CHI and other venues. He maintains an active research group with numerous PhD students and postdocs and contributes to the field through extensive publications in premier venues including ICSE, ASE, FSE, TSE, CHI, and CSCW.
