About Yasuyuki

Yasuyuki Taki is a Professor at the Institute of Development, Aging and Cancer at Tohoku University. He earned a B.S. from Tohoku University in 1993, an M.D. from Tohoku University School of Medicine in 1999, and a Ph.D. in Medicine from Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine in 2003. His career at Tohoku University includes serving as Medical Staff at Tohoku University Hospital from 2003 to 2004, Assistant Professor at the Institute of Development, Aging and Cancer from 2004 to 2008, Associate Professor at the same institute from 2008 to 2012, Professor at the Tohoku Medical Megabank Organization from 2012 to 2013, and Professor at the Institute of Development, Aging and Cancer since 2013. He has also held leadership roles as Co-Deputy Director and later Director of the Smart Ageing International Research Center.

Taki’s research focuses on brain aging, neuroimaging, and the neurobiology of aging, including the use of MRI to study brain development, gray matter volume changes, cognitive function, dementia, and related factors such as lifestyle, genetics, and environmental influences. He has contributed to large-scale studies like the Tohoku Medical Megabank Brain MRI Study and published extensively on topics including age-related brain volume changes, hippocampal volume, and risk factors for dementia. Taki has received awards including the Bronze Prize at the 42nd Autumn Clinical Assembly of the Japan Radiological Society in 2006, the Clinical Radiology Paper Award in 2006, the Excellent Presentation Award at the 40th Autumn Clinical Assembly of the Japan Radiological Society in 2004, and the Japan Neural Circuit Society Paper Award in 2004. He serves in editorial and committee roles within academic societies and contributes to public health initiatives through his work on aging and brain health.
