About Yi

Yi Xie is a professor at the School of Chemistry and Materials Science at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). She earned her B.S. degree from Xiamen University in 1988 and her Ph.D. from USTC in 1996. Following her doctorate, she completed postdoctoral research at Stony Brook University, State University of New York, in 1997. She joined the faculty at USTC as an associate professor in 1996 and was promoted to full professor in November 1998, becoming a doctoral supervisor in 1999. She also holds a position as professor at the Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at the Microscale and serves as Director of the Academic Committee of the School of Chemistry and Materials Science at USTC, as well as Vice Chairman of the Anhui Association for Science and Technology.

Her research focuses on inorganic chemistry and nanomaterials with applications in energy conversion and catalysis. Xie Yi has received numerous honors, including the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 1998, election as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2013, the IUPAC Distinguished Women in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering Award in 2013, the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Award in 2015, election as an academician of The World Academy of Sciences in 2015, and the National Innovation Competition Medal in 2017. She has led major research programs, such as projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Ministry of Science and Technology on nanomaterials for energy applications.
