About Yih Chung

Yih Chung Tham is an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) at the Department of Ophthalmology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS). He is also a NUS Presidential Young Professor and holds a joint appointment at Duke-NUS Medical School. Dr Tham is a clinically trained optometrist with PhD training in ocular epidemiology from NUS. He serves in a clinician-scientist track position at the Singapore Eye Research Institute. His research focuses on ocular epidemiology, with contributions to studies on population eye health, artificial intelligence applications in eye care, and retinal-based foundation models. He has been recognized with the NUS President Graduate Fellowship Award, the National Medical Research Council Transition Award, and the HPHSR Clinician Scientist Award. Since 2021, he has been named among the top 2% most cited scientists worldwide. Dr Tham participates in major initiatives, including co-leading efforts to develop a global medical AI foundation model for ophthalmology.
