Yoshio Yamamoto is a Professor in the School of Engineering, Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering at Tokai University. He earned a Master of Engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1983, a Master of Science from Columbia University in 1988, and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1994. His academic career at Tokai University includes serving as Associate Professor from 1998 to 2004 and Professor in the Department of Precision Engineering from 2004 to 2022, followed by his current appointment. Prior to joining Tokai University, he held positions as Research Assistant at the University of Pennsylvania in 1994, Research Associate at Ibaraki University from 1994 to 1996, and Visiting Researcher at Purdue University in 1989.
Yamamoto’s research focuses on robotics and intelligent systems, mechanics and mechatronics, and manufacturing and production engineering. His publications include works on mobile manipulators, coordinated locomotion and manipulation, and applications in micro-manipulation systems. He has received several awards, including the IEEE International Conference on Decision and Control Best Student Paper Award in 1992, the Machine Tool Technology Promotion Foundation Award in 1995, and the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers Kanto Branch Technical Award in 2000.
