Professor Youhong Tang is a Matthew Flinders Professor of Engineering in the College of Science and Engineering at Flinders University. He obtained a Bachelor of Engineering in 2000 and a Master of Engineering in 2002 from Wuhan University of Technology in China, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2007. He also holds a Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute awarded in 2008. Prior to joining Flinders University in 2012, he served as an Associate Professor at South China University of Technology from 2009 to 2011 and was previously affiliated with the Centre for Advanced Materials Technology at the University of Sydney.
His research interests focus on chemosensors and biosensors design and manufacture using aggregation-induced emission luminogens and triboelectric nanogenerators, fibre reinforced composites particularly epoxy-based multifunctional composites, energy harvesting and sensing devices especially triboelectric nanogenerators, and green manufacturing of functional materials using vortex fluidic devices. He has received numerous honours including the Environmental Chemistry Medal from the Royal Australian Chemical Institute in 2025, the Matthew Flinders Professorship at Flinders University from 2023, the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Higher Degree Research Supervision in 2022, the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Early-Career Researcher in 2012, and an Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award from 2012 to 2014. He is recognised as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Fellow of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute. Professor Tang has held editorial board positions with journals including Molecules, Polymers, Aggregate, and Scientific Reports, and has delivered keynotes and plenaries at international conferences on topics such as aggregation-induced emission and advanced materials.
