Yu Jun Tan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS), where she also serves as a principal investigator at the NUS Centre for Additive Manufacturing and the Advanced Robotics Centre. She received her BEng and PhD from Nanyang Technological University, with her doctoral work focusing on additive manufacturing and biomaterials. Prior to joining NUS in January 2021, she completed postdoctoral research on stretchable and self-healing electronics. Her research interests include self-healing materials, nature-derived and biodegradable materials, electronic materials, biomaterials, soft robotics, and 3D printing. At NUS, she leads interdisciplinary projects that bridge materials science, mechanical design, and sustainability, contributing to the development of next-generation manufacturing technologies and eco-friendly solutions.
Professor Tan has authored or co-authored papers in high-impact journals including Nature Materials, Nature Electronics, Nature Communications, Science Robotics, and Advanced Materials, with several featured on journal covers. She has received numerous awards and honors, including the 2025 Science, She Says! award, recognition in the 2021 MIT Technology Review Innovators Under 35 Asia Pacific list, the 2021 Materials Research Society Postdoctoral Award, the 2021 A*STAR AME Young Investigator Research Grant, and the 2020 IES Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award. She is a committee member of the Materials Research Society Singapore and has organized symposia at international conferences while serving as a reviewer for grant agencies and journals.
