About Zeerak

Zeerak Talat is a Chancellor's Fellow in Responsible Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence at the School of Informatics, The University of Edinburgh. Talat's research centres on ethical and responsible natural language processing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, with a focus on applications involving socially contingent data and the development of systems that support fair and equitable outcomes. Talat previously held positions including a postdoctoral role at Simon Fraser University and a research fellowship at Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence. Talat earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Sheffield in 2021, with a thesis examining machinic abuse detection and marginalisation in machine learning, following earlier degrees from the University of Copenhagen.

Talat's work addresses the intersection of machine learning technologies and societal impacts, including topics such as online abuse, hate speech detection, and fairness in AI systems.
