Rate My Professor Zhongying Shi

Professor Zhongying Shi is a professor and dean of the Institute of Education at Tsinghua University. He previously served as professor and dean of the Faculty of Education at Beijing Normal University from 2011 to 2016, and as executive dean of the Institute of Education at Tsinghua University from 2018 to 2019 before assuming the deanship. He earned his Ph.D. from Beijing Normal University and has held visiting positions at institutions including the Institute of Education at the University of London and Indiana University. His research focuses on foundations of education, philosophy of education with emphasis on values education, education reform, and philosophy of higher education. He has led projects funded by the National Social Science Fund of China and the Ministry of Education, and has published over 150 articles and monographs including The Cultural Characteristics of Pedagogy (1999), Knowledge Transformation and Education Reform (2001), Philosophy of Education (2008), and Transformation of Knowledge and Educational Reform. He serves as president of the Philosophy of Education Society of China, vice president of the Chinese Society of Education, and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Educational Studies. He has received multiple awards including the Grand Prize of Outstanding Textbooks of Tsinghua University, second prize of the First National Awards for Outstanding Textbooks in Higher Education, and several Beijing Higher Education Teaching Achievements Awards.

Professor Shi’s academic contributions have influenced education policy and reform in China through consultations with government bodies. He teaches courses on foundations of education, philosophy of education, philosophy of higher education, and studies on Xi Jinping’s Educational Philosophy. He is also president of the council of Beijing Mingyuan Institute of Education and holds positions on national and municipal degree committees and professional associations in education.
