Clinical Team Leader/Operative-Restorative Dentistry/Open Rank Professor
At the University of Pikeville and Tanner College of Dental Medicine (TCDM), innovation and excellence drive our approach to preparing the next generation of health professionals. The University of Pikeville seeks a dedicated Clinical Team Leader to guide predoctoral dental students within our innovative three-year DMD program. Clinical Team Leaders provide oversight, mentorship, and evaluation of student performance while ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care. This role is central to the TCDM's mission of improving oral health outcomes in Central Appalachia through education, service, and innovation.
Responsibilities:
Clinical Oversight & Patient Care
- Direct and Supervise comprehensive patient care within an assigned student team.
- Ensure adherence to best practices in infection control, digital record keeping, and quality assurance.
- Manage patient assignments to balance educational outcomes with continuity of care.
Student Education & Mentorship
- Mentor and evaluate students in treatment planning, diagnosis, and clinical performance.
- Provide formative and summative assessments, including competency evaluations aligned with Commission of Dental Accreditation standards.
- Support remediation and individualized learning plans when needed.
Integration of Digital Dentistry
- Train students in advanced digital technologies, including CAD/CAM, intraoral scanning, 3D imaging, and tele dentistry.
- Model evidence-based practice and emerging innovations in dental care delivery.
Curricular & Institutional Contributions
- Collaborate with faculty to integrate didactic and clinical instruction across the three-year curriculum.
- Participate in faculty calibration, accreditation preparation, and continuous program improvement.
- Serve on committees, contribute to scholarly activities, and support the mission of the TCDM.
Requirements:
- DMD or DDS degree from a CODA-accredited institution or equivalent and/or Ph.D. with research experience.
- Possess or be eligible to obtain a license to practice dentistry in Kentucky or faculty limited licensure.
- Graduate of a CODA-accredited GPR/AEGD program is preferred.
- Previous experience supervising predoctoral dental education students at CODA-accredited institutions is preferred.
