The University of Nevada, Reno is seeking a dynamic, results-driven Director of Development to lead major gift fundraising efforts for its College of Science, including the Mackay School of Earth Sciences and Engineering. Reporting to the Executive Director of Development and working closely with the Dean and college leadership, the Director will identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift donors ($50,000 and above), building private philanthropic partnerships that support academic excellence, enhance student experiences and advance the mission of Nevada's flagship university. The Director will build and manage an active portfolio of prospects and donors, conducting regular face-to-face visits and translating the College's funding priorities into compelling proposals and giving opportunities. Working closely with the Dean, faculty and academic leadership, the Director will help align fundraising strategy across the College's departments while strengthening stewardship practices that recognize and retain donor support over time. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree and four years of related professional experience or a Master's degree and two years of related professional experience, preferably in higher education fundraising, non-profit organizations or a related field that emphasizes strong relationship-building and outcome-driven results. They are tenacious, proactive and driven by outcomes, with a strong sense of initiative and urgency, taking ownership of challenges and focusing on solutions rather than obstacles. Comfortable managing an independent portfolio, they are motivated by goals, metrics and meaningful donor engagement. The Director must be based on campus and will have frequent local travel. Given the Mackay School's nationally recognized standing in mining and earth sciences education and its deep ties to an industry that remains a cornerstone of Nevada's economy, the ideal candidate must be comfortable with mining and able to advocate for its importance.
