Funded PhD: Dual detection of pathogen and immunocorrelates in saliva for surveillance of vaccine preventable diseases

About the Project

We are seeking an exceptional and enthusiastic postgraduate student with an interest in infectious diseases and immunity to join the Bristol Vaccine Centre (BVC) and undertake a fully-funded PhD fellowship in mucosal immunity. The fellowship is funded by a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funded Health Protection Research Focus Award (HPRFA) in Vaccines and Immunisation, in which a key aim is to explore the use of saliva for population surveillance of respiratory pathogens. The postholder will work under supervision and mentorship of experienced mucosal microbiology and immunity investigators (Dr Alice Halliday, Dr Anu Goenka, and Dr Marcia Boura) at the Bristol Vaccine Centre.

The project will be laboratory based and will focus on developing methods for dual detection of respiratory pathogens and specific antibodies (immunocorrelates) elicited against them in saliva.
