Job Posting Details
The Center for Language Education invites applications for Teaching-Track Faculty positions in Chinese language teaching at the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer rank. Level of appointment will be determined based on experience. The appointee is required to teach a range of courses in Chinese language and communication to undergraduate students who are already Chinese speakers, including mainland students. Prior experience in teaching at the tertiary level is expected, with priority given to applicants who can teach Chinese through the medium of Cantonese.
Additionally, expertise and prior experience in teaching one (or more) of the following is desired:
- Chinese as a foreign language to non-Chinese speakers
- Cantonese language from beginner to intermediate/advanced levels
- Applied linguistics at the Master’s level
As a Teaching-Track Faculty member with a strong academic orientation, the appointee is expected to contribute to the intellectual life of the Center by engaging in scholarship of teaching and learning, with PhD qualification seen as a strength. Strong competence in maximising technology for teaching is also expected.
Applicants should have a master’s degree in Chinese Language, applied linguistics or language education and preferably a recognized language teaching qualification. The appointee is expected to commence appointment in July 2026 for Fall Term teaching. (Duration: 2 years, renewable)
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
