About the Department
Perimeter College American Sign Language classes help students gain an understanding of American Sign Language and the rich cultural diversity represented by and within the Deaf community. We offer a strong foundation in communication that allows students to participate in the signing community. Classes are located on the Clarkston campus.
We provide instruction in American Sign Language through an immersive method from the very first day. We engage students in a rich learning environment that combines classroom instruction, experiential and self-directed learning. The instructor uses signs and drawing, as well as acting out situations to build understanding and expand American Sign Language comprehension during the class.
Position Description
Perimeter College is seeking part-time instructors in AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE who will play a key role in educating and supporting students.
Required Education
To qualify to teach AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE, applicants MUST have: A minimum of a master’s degree with 18 graduate semester hours (or 27 graduate quarter hours) in the teaching discipline.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
Teaching experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to teach AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE courses on the collegiate level
- Ability to teach effectively using a variety of methods
- Ability to relate to a diverse student population and facilitate student learning
- Effective communication skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of instructional technology
Work Hours
Classes at Perimeter College are offered morning, afternoon and evening including weekends.
Salary
$2,100.00 for each 3 Semester Credit Hour course taught
