Research Assistant
Position Summary
This position is for a research assistant within The Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The purpose of the position is to assist with data collection for multiple ongoing research projects and clinical trials within the Program on Aging, Chronic Illness, and Long-term Care. The research assistant will work independently within long-term care settings (including assisted living communities and nursing homes) to recruit and consent study participants – residents, family members, and staff – and administer questionnaires or other instruments to participants. The data collector will complete other tasks to support the research study as directed; this might include study equipment management, literature review searches, project material development, analysis, and others. Travel may be required; travel up to two hours from Chapel Hill may occur dependent on the ongoing studies. Some occasional overnight travel is required.
This is a time-limited position with an expected duration of 3 years with a possibility of being extended beyond 3 years.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Management Preferences
- Relevant training and experience and/or a bachelor’s degree or higher with a concentration in the premedical sciences or public health, and experience conducting scientific research.
- Experience working with health care staff is also desirable.
- Experience working with older adults in long-term care settings and/or with cognitive impairment is highly desirable.
