STEM Counseling Specialist
Primary Duties
Student Counseling Support
In collaboration with the CSU Pueblo Counseling Center, provide direct counseling support (evaluation, assessment, treatment or intervention, consultation, case management, referrals, and crisis intervention) to STEM students on site in the MAPS Office Counseling space and the CSU Pueblo Counseling Center.
Record and maintain client-related paperwork. As needed, collaborate with CSU Pueblo Counseling Center staff to perform clinical assessments and/or develop treatment plans.
Provide academic and career counseling services regarding educational goals or University-related issues, barriers to retention/persistence, etc.
Retention Support
Collaborate with the Center for STEM Support to provide direct retention support and tracking of retention / visits regarding STEM students engaged in MAPS Grant Programs.
Project Assistance
Assist the MAPS Project Director and MAPS staff with special projects as needed, and perform job-related duties, as assigned. Coordinate or direct student or employee workshops, training, or psycho-educational opportunities surrounding mental health, inclusiveness, wellness, and student success.
Ancillary Duties
Attend conferences meetings and workshops to stay up to date on best practices in student support, counseling.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work (BSW) or closely related field
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in tracking student retention data and implementing retention interventions for academically at-risk students.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a workplace that supports the university's mission.
- Demonstrated experience in tracking and reporting program data and associated student outcomes. Experience working with college students or at-risk populations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Social Work (MSW)
- Certification as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
- Strong communication skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in providing clinical counseling. Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and with attention to detail.
- Ability to interact professionally and comfortably with students, faculty, colleagues, and external organizations.
- Experience working with college students or at-risk populations.
- Experience monitoring and addressing student academic performance.
- Experience with student recruitment and retention issues, particularly at HSls
