Description

LLS Tutors are responsible for working with Mid students individually and/or in small groups to help them develop learning and study strategies that promote their academic success and provide learning support in specific content areas.
Examples of Duties
- Provide individualized and group learning support to Mid students in specific content areas by appointment or through arranged drop-in hours (as determined by supervisor).
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of student consultations and protect student confidentiality as required by FERPA laws.
- Participate in required training workshops, professional development sessions, and departmental meetings.
- Create a friendly, semi-professional atmosphere that encourages students to reflect on and develop their learning, study, research, and problem-solving strategies for academic success.
- Facilitate student insights and promote independence in learning.
- Assist with tutoring outreach activities, including class visits and marketing of tutoring services/schedules.
- Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, strategic and service initiatives. Adheres to the organization's policies & procedures, and compliance guidelines.
- Performs other duties as assigned to further departmental goals.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Knowledge of specific course content and the ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Understanding of tutoring principles and approaches or willingness/ability to learn during training sessions.
- Ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Ability to respond to students' academic concerns in a courteous and respectful manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively, in verbal and written format, with various constituencies including students, faculty, administrators, and community members.
