Randolph-Macon College invites applications for the position of Director of Student Engagement for Residence and Commuter Life. This is a 12-month, live-on position with on-call responsibilities.
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director provides strategic leadership for Residential and Commuter Life, serving approximately 1,900 residential students and a vibrant commuter student population. As a member of the Student Engagement Center (SEC), the Director serves as a generalist supporting cross-functional initiatives while leading professional and student staff dedicated to fostering student learning, engagement, belonging, and success.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead the implementation of the College's strategic plan for Residential and Commuter Life.
- In partnership with the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and the Director of Student Engagement for Involvement and Leadership, the Director will work with Student Engagement Center staff and the Campus Life and Student Engagement area to implement a vision for a holistic student experience from Welcome Week through Commencement.
- Actively participate in and lead the cross-functional model of the Student Engagement Center and serve as a key advisor to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs.
- Supervise and evaluate the Assistant Director of Student Engagement and two Student Engagement Coordinators who support Residence Life, Involvement, and Leadership initiatives.
- Manage all residential facilities, including residence halls, Special Interest Houses, Living and Learning Communities, Fraternity and Sorority housing, and Townhouse Apartments.
- Serve as advisor to the Commuter Student Association.
- Design and implement commuter student programs that build connection, inclusion, and student success.
- Plan, support, and execute educational, cultural, pluralism, and social programming in partnership with the Campus Life and Student Engagement Team.
- Promote engagement opportunities within and beyond the residence halls, exploring innovative ways to build community and connection using the SEC cross-functional team model.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel, or a related field is required.
- Minimum 3-5 years of demonstrated experience in residence life, commuter engagement, student support services, or related areas required.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong leadership, supervision, and communication skills.
- Strategic planning and organizational development.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities with professionalism and flexibility.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student-centered practice.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database systems. Maxient and eRez Life proficiency is preferred.
- Capacity to remain calm under pressure and work effectively in a fast-paced, student-focused environment.
