Position Overview:
The Albin O. Kuhn Library & Gallery’s Circulation department is seeking a detail-oriented individual to provide high-quality customer service to Library users. Under the supervision of the Library Services Supervisor - Circulation and Digital Media Lab, the Library Services Specialist - Equipment Lending leads the Library’s Laptop Loan Program and coordinates work related to other equipment lending.

Responsibilities:
- Serves as the lead for the Library’s Laptop Loan program and coordinates other equipment lending programs.
- Works with the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) and other campus units to develop and promote equipment lending programs; create guidelines and procedures; and update and maintain appropriate records and documentation, including web pages.
- Performs inventory, regular maintenance, and troubleshooting of laptops and loaner equipment; makes recommendations regarding repair, replacement, and charges for damages.
- Maintains proper storage, security tags, and labels of all equipment and ensures that accessories are in good condition.
- Trains library staff and student employees on equipment maintenance and loan procedures.
- Keeps statistics on equipment loans and produces reports as requested.
- Promotes the Digital Media Lab space and equipment lending to the UMBC campus.
- Provides direction to UMBC patrons on accessing and using equipment and Digital Media Lab software.
- May recommend purchases of new and/or replacement and equipment.
- Provides direction to UMBC and community patrons on accessing and using Library & Gallery services and resources, including the library catalog, printers, scanners, and other electronic devices.
- Works assigned shifts at the DML and Circulation desk, providing support, excellent customer service, and high-quality circulation and referral services
- Opens and closes the Library & Gallery, including the Digital Media Lab.
- Participates in cross-departmental and consortial projects, committees, and task groups as appropriate, and regularly participates in professional development activities
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- One year of experience directly related to the primary duties of the position
- One year of customer service experience, including teaching customers how to access services and resources
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills
- Demonstrated ability to learn and operate common computing and productivity applications (e.g., word processing, databases and spreadsheets, web browsers, email and electronic calendars)
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and maintain media equipment, including still and video cameras, audio recorders, microphones, tripods, and lighting kits
Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year of library circulation experience
- One year of experience coordinating tasks and shared work
- One year of experience creating, revising, and updating workflow documentation
- One year of experience addressing building and security issues
- Demonstrated skill in motivating and training student employees
- One year of experience troubleshooting and/or maintaining media equipment, including still and video cameras, audio recorders, microphones, tripods, and lighting kits
- One year of experience using and/or instructing others on the use of audio and video editing software such as Final Cut Pro and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere, etc.)
